About the University

University of Birmingham is a public university founded in 1825 as Birmingham School of Medicine and Surgery and gaining university status in 1900. The University of Birmingham is the founding member of both the prestigious Russell Group of British research universities and the collaborative Universitas 21 made up of an international network of research universities. The university accommodates over 23,000 students with 12,500 being postgraduates making it the fourth largest postgraduate population in the UK. The university boasts a wide range of subjects over five colleges composed of numerous schools: Arts and Law; Engineering and Physical Sciences; Life and Environmental Sciences; Medical and Dental Sciences; Social Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Science.

Accomodation

There is a large selection of accommodation offers available at University of Birmingham that you can choose from. As an undergraduate or international student you will have priority for a place in the accommodation provided by the university for your first year of study:

  • Priority accommodation for most undergraduate students within the 7000 rooms across three villages.
  • Options of either a room in a 5-8 bed flat split between 3 accommodation buildings at Vale Village, Pritchatts Park Village and Selly Oak Village.
  • Accommodation fees range from £89-£197 per week for approximately 42 weeks.

International Student - Finance

University of Birmingham does ‘fixed fee structure’ meaning any new international  undergraduate (excluding medicine) and postgraduate research students commencing in 2020/21 are charged the same tuition fee for each year.

  • Undergraduate courses tuition fees cost range from £18,120 – £23,460.
  • Postgraduate taught courses tuition fees cost range from £18,450 – £23,220.
  • Postgraduate research courses tuition fees cost range from £16,740 – £ 23,820.
  • International students will be required to pay a deposit when accepted onto the course. Also tuition fees depends on course of study selected.

For any student that has had their education disrupted or have no recognizable qualifications however meet the minimum English requirements of IELT 5.5 and required Maths skills you may still be eligible to progress onto university.
